Preparing For your Family Photos

I’ll be honest, taking family photos can seem daunting, but with a little prep, I know you’ll be glad did.

1: What your doing matters

You’re documenting your family! As they are. At this stage. You and your family will look at these in 5, 10, or 25 years and be thankful you took the time to document them. Also, it’s your time to be in the photos with your family, not just the one taking the photo.

2: Getting there is the hardest part

I take photos of my family, I know getting ready is not easy. Just know that when you arrive, the hard part is over! For real. You can relax. I can take over now and I will guide you the whole way through process, where to go, what to do, and how to look your best.

3: Know your audience

You know the people in the photos the best. Are you working around nap schedules? Meal Schedules? Sports schedules? Think of the people you’re working with and what they need to be at their best. And for 99% of all people, including me, it’s food! Pack an extra snack, and most of them will be happy.

4: Let Them Be Them

Let them be themselves. Forced smiles never quite look the way we want them to. If your kids want to run, jump, or play, lets do it! The best photos happen when kids are comfortable, happy, and allowed to be them. I’ve done this hundreds of times, it seems like chaos, but trust me that you will leave with what you want. If there are specific situations with your family or children that you feel would better prepare me for your session, just let me know!

5: Set realistic expecations and rewards

Everyone needs a reward for a job well done, Moms, Dad, kids, all the above. You all did great things! For kids, they don’t typically understand why you’re doing this, and it’s certainly not their idea. So rewarding them for their effort is always a great idea.

I’m very excited to meet your family at your session, and I promise you’ll love what you see at the end.
